If you're evaluating receipt capture software for a Canadian business, you've likely come across both Dext (formerly Receipt Bank) and Nabbit. Both tools capture receipts and sync to accounting software — but they take meaningfully different approaches, especially for Canadian-specific requirements like GST/HST, CRA compliance, and QuickBooks Online Canada integration.

Canadian-first design. Nabbit was built in Canada for Canadian businesses. GST/HST handling, CRA receipt retention requirements, and Canadian bank feed compatibility are features the product was designed around — not adapted for. For a Canadian business, this means fewer workarounds and edge cases.
Canadian support. Dext's support team is based in the UK. If you have an urgent question during Canadian business hours, you may be waiting for a response that comes the next morning. Nabbit is Canadian-based and available during the hours your business operates.
Transparent CAD pricing. Dext pricing is typically quoted in GBP or USD and converted. Nabbit's pricing is in Canadian dollars — what you see is what you pay.
QuickBooks Canada specificity. Nabbit integrates with QuickBooks Online Canada — including province-specific HST rates and CAD chart of accounts — rather than a generic international QuickBooks connector.
Xero integration. If your accounting stack is built around Xero, Dext is the stronger choice today. Nabbit does not currently integrate with Xero.
Accountant adoption. Dext has broader adoption in Canadian accounting practices and deeper integrations with several other platforms. If your bookkeeper or accountant already uses Dext's practice tools, workflow integration may be simpler.
Larger feature set for practices. Dext has a practice management tier designed for accounting firms managing multiple clients. If you are an accountant managing several business clients, Dext's practice features are more mature.
Choose Nabbit if: You use QuickBooks Online Canada and want native, GST/HST-aware sync; you want a product built in Canada, supported in Canada, and priced in CAD; you have a team of 5–50 employees who need a clean approval workflow; and you are not using Xero.
Choose Dext if: Your accounting practice already uses Dext across multiple clients; you use Xero as your primary accounting system; or you need deeper supplier management features beyond receipt capture.
Whichever product you pick, test it against the things that cause trouble at GST/HST filing time and in a CRA audit:
Run ten real receipts through each tool: a faded thermal receipt, a fuel receipt, a restaurant receipt with a tip, an invoice from a supplier with a GST/HST number, and a receipt that shows GST and PST separately. Compare what each tool read against the paper, and note how many fields you had to correct by hand. Then ask what the tool does with the corrected data, because the cost of a bad read is an ITC you cannot support later. The guide on what receipts CRA requires lists exactly what a valid receipt must show.
Full access to all features, including QuickBooks Online Canada sync. No credit card required.
